Becoming a Driving Instructor

To become an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) you will need to pass three tests. Our Diamond Advanced Instructor will guide you through each of these, ensuring that you go into each test fully prepared and feeling confident in your ability to pass.

PART 1 - Theory Test

You will be asked 100 questions and must answer 85 correctly. We can recommend or provide resources to help you study all the topics required.

Part 2 - Advanced Driving Test

This is your chance to get behind the wheel & demonstrate your standard of driving ability. During your training, your instructor will work with you to ensure you can drive to a high standard confidently and that you can demonstrate a high level of driving technique, showing consideration for other road users and the ability to anticipate hazards ahead.

The test is approximately one hour long and a maximum of six driver faults are allowed.

Part 3 - Instructional Ability

The part 3 test requires you to give a driving lesson to your student while the examiner observes you from the back seat of the car. The examiner is looking to see if effective learning is taking place and you will be assessed across three categories of competence, Lesson Planning, Risk Management and Teaching / Learning strategies.

You are only allowed three attempts at the Part 2 & Part 3 tests. The Part 3 test must be taken or booked within two years of passing the Part 1 Theory Test.
